Latest Addiciton

I'm one of those people who will grab ahold of something and run with it. A new drug, a new boyfriend, a new favorite author or genre, writing, foods, etc. A few years ago I got into Feng Shui. I started reading about it and suddenly it's all I wanted to read about. I once became obsessed with making the perfect spaghetti sauce and I made pot after pot of spaghetti sauce. This went on for months, with me living on noodles and sauce.

I've realized this and I've accepted it as a part of who I am. I just like to soak up information and concentrate on something for a while. When I'm in the midst of it, I can feel the addictive quality, but I know it will end. It has before and it will again. As a byproduct of this quality, I have read a lot of Black women authors, I can talk about a lot of drugs from personal experience, I can make a good tomato-based sauce, and I can chat at length about s/m, feng shui and square dancing.

My latest addiction is podcasting. It's something I came across when updating my ipod. With iTunes 4.9, podcasting is free. It's sort of like having a radio in your ipod. Apparently there are shows out there in the atmosphere that have been recorded and are now available to download. My favorite show is Cinecast. The hosts Sam and Adam are two fairly regular guys who talk about movies. What I love about them is that they are falable and they have not seen every film ever made, which is nice. While I love Roger Ebert, he is so far above me in film knowledge that I don't feel like I can relate sometimes. They are also on the list of possible downloads.

It's also easy to put them on and take them off. There's the news, the weather Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, several movie reviews, chat shows, lots of stuff. It's like cabel tv with all that variety. Hence, there's a lot of crap. But there's a lot of good stuff. And there's stuff that's only like five minutes long, which is nice. There's even a car show I like.

This morning I downloaded a show by a guy who talks about how podcasting isn't going to last. Years ago I had a boyfriend who said, "Don't get a CD player. Those won't last. That's like Beta tapes." This was 1988, and while CDs may not be the thing in the future, they have certainly had a nice run. So podcasting may not last, but I'm having fun right now.

I am exactly the same way - not only trying new things but being obsessed with them more months and then moving on to something new. Hence my inability to do the 9-5.
