Testing 1 2 3

At the encouragement of some friends, I recently took an online Myers-Briggs Personality Test. The result, according to this test, is this:

ESTJ - "Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength. 8.7% of total population.
Take Free Myers-Briggs Personality Test

There's also link a to another version of the same test, that I haven't taken yet. I'll...uh...get right on that.

The whole online testing thing reminds me of a documentary I saw a few months ago about porn stars. One of the people featured was a young American woman who did her entire interview au naturale. (You can do that here. One of the wonders of living in Europe.) She had a sort of sandy voice with a little bit of a baby thing going on (and of course a couple of huge fake breasts). Her claim to fame (other than her acting skills) was that she was a genius and a porn star (and a floor wax?) She'd taken a test online and had come up genius. So it wasn't official...but...it gave her something to talk about.

A couple of months ago at knitting, the subject of whether being alone or being with people is more "energizing" (I think that was the word they used) for you. I took it to mean more refreshing, like what do you find yourself craving more. Since I was working a lot, I said, "Oh easy! Being alone." I can sit alone for a long time before I feel like I "need" to get out.

(That said, I have knitting, choir and writers group this week, plus a full roster of classes, so I'm not going to be lonely any time soon.)

But then, the Christmas break came and choir stopped and writers group stopped and all of my classes stopped and Fred was working it was incredibly cold out and I found myself living for Monday nights (knitting). I needed some interaction. So maybe that E in my score (which stands for extrovert) means something. Online interaction only gets you so far. And then someone needs a hug.

If you like online testing, here's one that might appeal to you. It's the Nerd Test. Like a friend of mine, I found myself nudging my score to make myself more nerdy. And I only got a 57. Lightly Nerdy? I'm also probably only Lightly Cool.

I am nerdier than 57% of all people. Are you a nerd? Click here to take the Nerd Test, get nerdy images and jokes, and talk on the nerd forum!

Your writing is more than lightly interesting, that's for sure. I could spend a really long time doing online tests and have found out that I am not always smarter than the seemingly obvious questions. But they keep telling me I am a social person when I prefer staying at home reading to just about anything else. Maybe I'm just too self-conscious. Oh, right, I'm arrogant too, I forgot. Anyway, I will be doing some tests now, I want to see how nerdy I am.

OOOH I just had to do the nerd test and now I can confirm that I am mid-level nerd, without even fudging too much. How did that happen to a sweet 64 year old LIBRARIAN for goodness sake!!! Thanks for the link, Andy, and thanks for your totally habit-forming blog.

Interestingly, we seem to have completely opposite personalities. I took three versions of the same test last night and, to my surprise, always got INFP - which is the polar opposite of ESTJ. We really should meet someday, that would be interesting. But since I am 68%introverted (huh?) there's not much chance... ;-)

The I/E thing? It's like this: I had a couple of guys in my office today talking about some broken program. And we talked for like an hour, and I so needed to stop talking with them so I could gather my thoughts and spend some quiet time thinking because the whole thing was stressing me out.

When you are stressed, do you want to call someone and talk about it? That's an E.

That place you used to work where I work? Nearly the whole building is an I.

And my nerd score is a 93.

And Judy, librarians are real nerds.
